Peakbagging Team rallies to add another W!

Gittler finishes the W for ‘Merica! F Yeah!!!

Jacob “Jackal of Judas” Gittler became the newest member of the Peru Nordic Peakbagging Team to complete his Adirondack 46ers in the winter season.

Up for the task… Harvester of Sorrow photobombs the summit of East Dix Mt.

Gittler needed four peaks going into the last official day of the peakbagging season (46r rules state that winter runs from 12/21 to 3/21 regardless of the actual date of the Equinox).  Gittler needed to climb Macomb, South Dix and East Dix Mountains in the Dix Range down in North Hudson.  And then, needed to get to Keene Valley to ascend Big Slide Mountain.

Early Morning ascent of the Macomb Slide.

The team of Gittler and Kobak started with a 5 AM morning assault from Elk Lake.  The snow was firm allowing for a microspike ascent of Macomb.  Snow picked up during the morning as the duo crushed South and East Dix (we are too purist to ever refer to it as Grace Peak).  After descending through unbroken sugar snow from the Macomb/South Dix Col to Lillian Brook, the pair was back to the car by 11:30 AM… Morning session complete: Off to KV!

Patty “Peakbagger of Pugnacity” Hurlburt couldn’t make the trip this day, but came up big with KV Hiker’s Hut Hospitality… Thank You Patty!!!

The Peakbagging team was greeted by gracious host, Patty Hurlburt who served up a filling lunch in downtown Keene Valley before sending the boys on their way up Big Slide just before 2 PM.

Jake… just a little psyched to finish! (PS 1940)

Snow continued to fall all afternoon as the duo climbed over the Brothers to Big Slide Mt.  Temperatures were comfortable, holding right around freezing all day.  The Team summited at 4:06 PM and Gittler reached his goal of completing the Adirondack 46 High Peaks in the Winter Season.  Welcome to the Club 5553W!!
