NYSSRA Champs: Allison bags another State Championship, this time for Peru Nordic!

Paul “Pall-Bearer of Panic” Allison double-poles into the stadium en route to his third NYSSRA Championship!

Paul Allison won his third NYSSRA Nordic New York State Cross Country Championship, this time skiing in the skull-and-blood-laden uniform of the Peru Nordic Masters.  Paul enters an elite group of racers, joining Mike Wynn, Jon Santor and Janet Findlay, as skiers that have won NYSSRA Championships in the name of the Evil Empire!

The start of the 20 km NYSSRA Championship Race

Allison put an impressive gap on the field as he blistered through the challenging 18 km course.  The route led skiers up Mt Van Hoevenberg’s inner loop and East Mountain Skate Start trails 3 times and then concluded with an uphill finish on Main Street.  Allison had great kick, he klistered up the night before, but the 2″ of new snow overnight had him covering with hard wax.  “I was in the tracks the whole time, but it was a little draggy on the descent.”  Allison led a spirited group of Peru Nordiques on the day.  Peru placed 3 skiers in the top 10 of the exceptionally competitive men’s race.  Jan Wellford had a strong 4th place finish and Chris Rose managed to sneak into the top 10.

Jon “Anathema of Outrage” Santor herringbones up the steep section of the relay course.

Janet Findlay continued her strong skiing, winning the M6F category and finishing 3rd overall in the women’s race. Peru Nordic also had many other age-group gold medalists, including Paul Allison (SRM), Chris Rose (M3M), Chris Beattie (M8M), Janet Findlay (M7F), Amanda Zullo (M1F), Jan Wellford (M1M) and Joe Korzinecki (M6M). Jim Kobak, Stan Hatch and Jim Adams won silver medals in their age classes, too.

Connie “Dark-Knight of Nature” Prickett finishes strong to win the NYSSRA Club Championship Women’s relay!

During Saturday’s relay, Peru’s “A” team of Jon Santor and Jan Wellford finished 3rd overall.  They duo skied penalty loops instead of shooting at the biathlon targets, and it cost them dearly, getting passed by the sharp-shooting Eric Seyse to miss out on the silver medal.  Peru’s “B” team of Stan Hatch, Chris Rose and Jim Kobak finished 5th overall.  And the women’s “A” team of Connie Prickett and Kirsten Domas won the women’s race outright!!

The season ain’t over muthaf*#ker!

Next week a select group of Peru Nordiques will tackle the Lake Placid Loppet, and the VHCS Season continues with the infamous FAT TUESDAY race on Wednesday.  Ski and Destroy!!
