The annual COOKIE CLASH at DEWEY MOUNTAIN is set to get underway on Saturday, February 22, 2014. The 10 km freestyle race has skiers rip around four laps of the 2.5 km race course at Dewey Mountain. All proceeds from this race are split between two great non-profit groups, the Friends of Dewey Mountain Recreation Center and the Cystic Fibrosis Lifestyle Foundation. REGISTER TODAY AT THIS LINK!
Dewey Mountain Recreation Center was founded in 1980 by a partnership of the Town of Harrietstown, Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and many dedicated volunteers. Nordic combined skier Billy Demong and biathlete Tim Burke have set American milestones in the Olympics and on the World Cup circuit. (Bill Demong is a World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist in Nordic Combined!!!) Both learned to race at Dewey. Thousands of kids have followed in their tracks, developing a lifelong love of skiing, snowshoeing and fitness. Every winter 50+ kids participate in the learn-to-ski program, while hundreds more use the ski and snowshoe trails.
Team Cookie is a group of individuals who have been inspired by Brookie “the Cookie” Taptick and would like to help her, and everyone else live long healthy lives while coping with the genetic condition, Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition that affects the lung and pancreas function of individuals. Research has shown that an active lifestyle has been beneficial for patients to maintain increased lung function, as well as being a psychological boost for individuals living with this disorder. The Cystic Fibrosis Lifestyle Foundation works to help people with CF stay active as part of their treatment and therapy for CF. CFLF assists in providing avenues toward healthy and active lifestyles through recreation, thereby educating people with Cystic Fibrosis on the critical psychological, social and emotional connections between their lifestyle and their health. The Peru Nordic Evil Empire is proud to be involved with both of these groups to help people with CF “Live Stronger and Live Longer!”
The Peru National Championship Shield is awarded annually to the fastest Peru Nordic Master or Peru Resident or Peruvian National who skis in the COOKIE CLASH at DEWEY MOUNTAIN.
