The annual SUFFERFEST Gathering at Prospect Mountain in Lake George is a celebration of Nordic Skiing. Members from many NYSSRA Clubs assembled to test their fitness in a true pre-season throw-down. Skiers from traditional powerhouses like Peru Nordic, HURT Nordic and Saratoga Biathlon were joined by upstarts from new NYSSRA Clubs like Adirondack Vauhti and Saranac Lake Nordic.
Adirondack Vauhti’s big free-agent signing, Doug Diehl, won the day. Diehl attacked from the start and hung on for his third SUFFERFEST World Title. Doug completed the grueling climb in 35:51.
Peru Nordic went 2-3 with Chris Rose (37:30) and Jim Kobak (38:40). While Saranac Lake’s Keith Kogut won the wooden medal (40:02).
Peru Nordic’s Mike Wynn won the non-doped event, followed by HURT Nordic’s David Kvam and Peru Nordic’s newest rookie recruit, Jan Wellford.
Gabriella Fritelli, testing the free-agent market, won the womens’ race. Gabriella is still uncommitted, but sources say she’s close to signing with Peru Nordic for the upcoming 2014 season.
The next event on the calendar is SLAYER in Montreal, followed on-snow skiing and racing… starting Nov 23???
