Peru Nordic, Team Cookie and Dewey Mountain once again joined forces for the annual COOKIE CLASH at Dewey Mountain 10 km Freestyle Race.
Conditions were fantastic as skiers assaulted the 2.5 km loop, tackling the “Killer Hill” 4 times! Kudos to the Dewey Mountain crew for putting together an awesome course! This race serves as a fundraiser for both Dewey and the Cystic Fibrosis Lifestyle Foundation. Over $500 was raised to support both causes on the day. Thanks to everyone who raced and donated!
Peru Nordic’s Mike Wynn won the race in a blistering 28:42. By winning the race, Wynn captured his second Peru Nordic National Championship and will proudly display the Championship Shield on the outside of his home for the upcoming year.
Wynn bested last year’s champion, Jon Santor and knocked off reigning NYSSRA overall points leader, Eric Seyse, who settled for bronze. Each podium finisher was given a hand-crafted key fob courtesy of the Team Cookie Crafting Team.
In the Women’s race, Amanda Zullo (Peru Nordic) dominated the field, beating Paul Smith’s College’s Ann Jardin and Cari Brazie.
In the Junior’s race, Aaron Huneck (HURT Nordic) beat out teammate Adam Chrzan and a feisty Nils Pedersen. Aaron also crushed the world’s oldest junior/Team Cookie Dad Mike Taptick in the 5 km race. Tappy skied in his first ever race after only skiing a handful of times. He was immediately signed by Peru Nordic.
In the CLASH of The TITANS Team Competition, Paul Smith’s College won the overall title for the day. Controversy surrounded whether coach Santor and Mike Tuthill’s points for the Clash should count for Peru Nordic or Paul Smiths. In the end, the title was handed to Paul Smiths based on massive points scored during the “somewhat less than elite” wave big air warm-up competition.
