One can only speculate that the appearance of some of HURT Nordic’s top skiers, along with a former (probably disgruntled) director, means that a major shift of talent is in the works. Could it be that the powerhouse Huneck family is planning to sever ties with HURT Nation to join the Evil Empire? Probably…
The Huneck’s joined the regular War Ensemble crowd for the high flying excitement of the annual SkiTona 500. Skiers raced one qualifying “Hot lap” before doing a grueling 5 lap race over the relentless Gauntlet Stadium SuperSpeedway Oval.
Chris Rose was the top qualifier, but was overtaken by Austin Huneck. Tim Huneck qualified fourth, but quickly moved up the standings. A poorly-timed pit while in second position bumped him back into third overall. Jim Kobak qualified with the second fastest time, but couldn’t hold on to the frenetic pace, “I was having exhaust issues, and by exhaust, I mean I was exhausted.”
Kobak and Bob Maswick took part in their traditional pre-race warmup of doing some peakbagging before the race. Today the pair attacked Street and Nye mts before bibbing up for the SkiTona. “I felt great,” said Maswick, “my new jacket really matches my color palette.”
The SkiTONA 500 was the final tune-up before this weekend’s COOKIE CLASH at DEWEY MOUNTAIN. There is still time to register… do so NOW!!! REGISTRATION LINK
