Bitter Negativity Breeds Positive Loppet Outlook

Loppet Course… it’s ready to go for Saturday

It’s Loppet Time!!!

These guys are ready for the Loppet (well, they’ve probably skied Porter like a million times so far)

The most wonderful time of the year is upon us.  The Lake Placid Loppet is set to go tomorrow and it should prove to be a big day for the Peru Nordic Masters.  Traditionally, this is the race where the most Peru Nordiques show up and Ski and Destroy!  There are racers in all divisions and doing each of the four Loppet races, the 25 km Classic, the 25 km Freestyle, the 50 km Classic and the 50 km Freestyle.  It should be a monster day for Peru in the NYSSRA Points series (which we currently lead, by the way…)

Swix Polar… Deathskinada Wax of the Day

To “warm up” for the big day, the week’s Wednesday War Ensemble featured one of the Peru Nordic Majors, the annual DEATHSKINADA Loppet.  This race is traditionally held on the coldest Wednesday of the season, and this year’s race went off at a bitter -6.66 F at race time.

Which one is the trophy?

Keith Kogut got his name on the Ugly Death’s Head Trophy by being negative.  He skied a strong seeding lap on the War Ensemble course, then progressively had negative splits on the sprint course.  He made sure to have a tin of Swix Polar wax… and he drew the Death Card at the Deathskinada Tarot Table.  Kogut out-deuled Chris Rose, who despite being fastest on the day, drew the Fool!

The GOAT is ready for her big day…. Loppet Saturday!!! SKI AND DESTROY!!!!

Kogut looks to continue his “hot” streak in the 25 km Kort-Loppet classic.  Race start temps promise to stay near zero, so look for the Deathskinada Champ to keep things negative!
