KONG Saddles Up For the Run For the Roses

The KONG shines bright in my old Kentucky home…

The Kentucky Derby is just a day away, and the expectation grows by the minute. The post position trial draw race down Bare Mt. was completed yesterday and the field of competitive horses is now set.

Class Trip, ridden by Jason Fiegl was made the morning line favorite at 4/1. Logic, ridden by Chris Rose at 9/2 and upcoming, Chem Exam, ridden by Tom Moffett at 6/1 are the next two choices.

Class Trip is looking to become the first horse in 130 years to win the Derby without having immediately continuing on to race up Rattlesnake after the downhill event.

Logic is looking to silence his critics and from the second post, jockey Chris Rose will have to make sure he doesn’t get boxed-in like he did in the Pre- Derby downhill race. There is no way he finishes in the money if he gets a bad lead out, hugs the rail or if he doesn’t actually do the Patch Sprint.

Chem Exam could be taken back by jockey Tom Moffett. He traveled well through traffic at the Downhill Bare race but he might be looking to be on the clear earlier, so look for him to be spotted in the back stretch before making his move.

Overtime Limit has post 4, which is the first spot on the auxiliary gate and gives him a clear shot to his inside. He looks very good from that post and jockey Jim Kobak looked pleased when he established position on the descent from Bare.

Ultimate Ranger and jockey Jake Gittler have the fifth post. Expect Gittler to take his favored spot on the rail early and try to maximize his preferred use of the shortest path to the wire.

Torn Meniscus has the perfect post for him at number six. Expect jockey Skip Singer to have him in tracking position behind the two front runners. He will run with them and could have a lane to run in the stretch.

The horse that has all the buzz in the mornings at the track is Jerry Ross’s Bathroom Reno. He has been turning heads working impressively and the dry fast track conditions only improves his chances.

An up and coming winning connection is with Dynamic Duo from post 7. Expect that Karen and Holley will have the blinkers on for this race so that this filly should break alertly on race day.

Post time for the  running of the most exciting two hours +  in sports will be at 10 AM on Saturday May 26.
