Peru Nordic’s Jon Santor had the second fastest skate time on the soft trails of Mt Van Hoevenberg, and managed to cruise to the Empire State Games Open Pursuit victory. Santor picked up 2 golds and a silver in the mens open category over the weekend.
Peru’s Amanda Zullo fought through the soft condtions to win the Overall Masters Silver medal in the pursuit. Zullo collected 2 gold medals by winning the M1F category on both days.
Doug Diehl managed to keep his second overall status in the Mens’ Masters category. Diehl won 2 Golds in the M5M division.
Chris Rose and Stan Hatch both captured double Gold medals in the M3 and M4 categories, finishing 5th and 6th overall.
Jim Kobak and Ed Lis won double silver and bronze medals respectively in the M3 division (AKA the Toughest Division in Nordic Skiing). Kobak managed to fight back from over a minute behind to move up into 7th overall with a blistering skate time. “I just skied EVIL, it was as if I had no soul!!!” (or was it “sole?”… Kobak arrived at the race with no insoles in his boots)
Jerry Curcio and Jim Adams also took home double medals in the M6 and M7 categories. All in all, Peru Nordic Skiers SKIED and DESTROYED!!! Look for Peru Nordic to bring home more hardware at the NYSSRA Championships on March 12-13.
