Fans are ravenously scooping up tickets for Saturday’s Iron Maiden Triathlon. This year’s event promises to be the most brutally competitive ever. There is a three-headed monster of favorites who should viciously battle each other throughout the course, leaving the infamous Hill of Death to sort out the final result. The line is now even for three members of the Peru Nordic Masters, Mike Wynn, Chris Rose and David Kvam. Each of these competitors has the whole package of running, biking and rollerskiing. They will need to play to their strengths if they wish to come home with an Iron Maiden victory.
Keys to victory:
David Kvam: The young gun. His youthful legs will respond to the dreaded Bike/Rollerski transition the best. He will need to attack early on the Barney Downs Road during the rollerski and hang on to the finish.
Mike Wynn: The fastest in the field. He needs to get over a minute on the field during the bike leg, then he won’t be caught on the rollerski.
Chris Rose: The defending champ. Rose will have to use his homecourse advantage in order to three-peat. He is skiing strong, and is a solid cyclist. As long as he doesn’t lose too much time during the run, he will be right there at the finish.
Perhaps there will be a darkhorse in this race… can savvy veterans, Joe Korzenecki, Bob Maswick and Tim Huneck break up the party? Find out this saturday, 9 am…
