ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE – President Barack Obama says he thinks the White House is “in range” with lawmakers trying to finalize a massive economic stimulus package. The president told reporters aboard Air Force One that his original goal was to get an economic jobs package around $800 billion. He said the House made some changes to that framework in the bill that it passed, and now the Senate is doing the same with its version. When asked if he meant $800 billion and not more, Obama said: “Well, I gave you a range. I think we’re in range. You know, there’s an old saying, ‘time is money’. Well, if we can’t give more money, at least we can bailout the VHCS with time.”
Using the President’s package, members of Peru Nordic hit MitcHELLbeiner Skistadion for a short lap/long lap 6 km race. Upon completion of the race, skiers were given a “bailout” graduated based on how they placed overall.
Chris Rose, after mis-hearing competitor split times, charged full throttle with lactate-busting frenzy around the course. His blistering pace set the standard… and earned him a 3% bailout check.
Jim Kobak, skiing without poles because of a mangled right arm. “What do you get when you ski a 50 km race with one arm on Saturday and follow that with a 15 km race on Sunday?… Etremely painful and limiting forearm TENDONITIS!!!” Despite his physical disability, Kobak had the second fastest time, earning him a 6% reduction.
Charlie Mitchell and Steve Bailey had an intense battle, with Mitchell coming in only 13 seconds behind Kobak and eeking out Bailey by a scant 33 seconds. This earned Mitchell a 9% reduction in time, but Bailey accrued a 12% bonus. Jayce Ashline finished slightly behind the pack, but recieved a hefty 15% stimulus bailout.
When the dust settled and the bailouts were given… the final results were as follows:
