Another Gold for Phelps (and Tabletop)

The Peru Nordic Peakbagging division of Jim Kobak and Jason Fiegl was at it again with a quick MLK day trip up Phelps and Tabletop.

Originally intending to hit the McIntyre Range, the duo decided the snowy, socked-in conditions warrented a quick change of plans, so they set out from ADK Loj for Phelps and Tabletop Mts.

Kobak, after thouroughly trashing his trusty Sherpa Claw snowshoes on Street and Nye a few weeks earlier, “…I’m a little bummed, they were only 20 years old and had done multiple rounds of the 46, other than that they were like brand new…,” decided to test out a tricked out new pair of MSR Lightning Ascent snowshoes on the trip.  “I give them 5 stars. They are light, small and had great traction… plus they have a groovy heel-lift that made steep ascents a breeze, and helped develop some rock-hard definition in my calves!”  The conditions were perfect; firm packed snow made for easy climbing.  The pair made quick work of the two 4000 footers and were home by early afternoon…
