Doug Diehl, skiing for www.AdirondackNordic.com made his move at the half-way mark and would not be caught, becoming the 2008 Sufferfest Champion. Diehl, defending champ, Jim Kobak and Chris Rose broke away from the field at the scenic overlooks. Diehl took over the lead soon after, and with a powerful one-skate up the steep incline, pulled away from Kobak to conquer the summit of Prospect Mountain in a world-record time of 0:37:54. Kobak came in second, followed by Chris Rose in third.
Team NJS’s Andy Farry hammered out an impressive 4th place, overtaking powerhouses Dave Kvam and Mike Wynn. Bob Maswick’s last minute switch to razor scooter wheels paid off dividends as he pulled off a new PR.
Jim Underwood captured the classic division, rumor has it he double-poled the whole course. Strong top-10 showings by local favorites, Sean Halligan and Dave Burt got the fans at the summit finish fired up.
