October 6- Peru Nordic sent four of their top skiers to the annual Climb to the Castle race. Jim Kobak and Chris Rose finished 1-2 in the MM2 category, while Joe Korzenecki and Bob Maswick duplicated the feat in the MM5 category.
The race was shifted down about a mile to accomodate the snow and ice build-up on the road. The start was moved to Santa’s Workshop, and the finish was at the slide, just below the Lake Placid Turn. This made the course a little harder, with the flattish section between the turns eliminated. But, it also made the course a little shorter.
Lots of the USST heavy hitters were there, including Kris Freeman, Andy Newell and Torin Koos, their pace obviously affected by the ominous presence of Peru Nordic behind them. Kobak was the top Peru Nordic finisher, finishing 4th overall in the Masters division, behind David Chamberlain, Eli Enman and some really really fast French Canadian dude… that dude was fast, eh?
A good time was had by most, and Peru Nordic’s athletes enjoyed hanging out with the Nordic Elite of the USA at the Olympic Training Center. Next on the Rollerski Calendar… Conquest of the Americas! Monday October 13th. Ski and Destroy!
